  • A minimum engagement capability that relies on a single multi-function fire control radar (MFCR), Tactical Operations Centre and launcher (12 PAC-3 missiles) can be strategically deployed using a single C-5 or tactically deployed in just five C-130 sorties

  • The missile combines standard aerodynamic control surfaces and multiple single-shot thrusters to achieve the very agile high-g maneuvers required for precise hit-to-kill control

  • Both systems will use a common design for the digital receiver and signal/data processor, allowing for validation using a single prototype

F-16 Fighting Falcon - Military Aircraft
    Detailed fact sheet, and images.

  • Single-engine designs were put forward by Boeing, General Dynamics, LTV, Northrop, and Rockwell

  • But midway through this stage of the competition, some potential foreign buyers expressed concern over buying a new single-engine fighter

  • The previous single-engine supersonic export fighter, the F-104, had a troublesome safety record that some buyers were disinclined to repeat

  • General Dynamics chose a single turbofan engine, essentially the same engine as one of the two that powered the F-15

  • Use of a single engine helped minimize weight and drag; use of a turbofan rather than a pure jet engine gave high fuel efficiency

  • The fuselage was extended so that the single-seat versions became as long as the two-seat version, and air-to-ground capability was added

  • General Dynamics countered with the compact YF-16, built around a single F100 engine

  • The A in F-16A refers to a Block 1 through 20 single-seat aircraft

  • The F-16A , a single-seat model, first flew in December 1976

  • The F-16C and F-16D aircraft, which are the single- and two-place counterparts to the F-16A/B, incorporate the latest cockpit control and display technology

    Military Radio Nomenclature
Comprehensive article by Ray Mote from Electric Radio.

  • The Joint Army-Navy Nomenclature System was implemented to cope with systems intended for multiservice use or with potential for such use, thereby ending the confusion that resulted from a single system having two radically different nomenclatures assigned by the Army and Navy (such as the IFF system the Army called the SCR-515, also known as the Navy Model ABA)

  • The SCR designator could be a single transmitting or receiving set, or a full set of both transmitting and receiving equipment

  • Unfortunately, with only a single letter available to indicate the model in the most heavily-used categories such as airborne receivers and transmitters, this system was also doomed

  • Even in a single service model, multiple manufacturers can confuse the issue

  • (A single letter limited the system to no more than 26 models.) The AN system appears to be the most robust, in terms of expansion and flexibility, and this is proved by its survival
